“I have not met a child or adult who does not like Lovito. It was my independent foundation for emotional self-management and self-regulation. The series has 13 loving stories based on dichos (proverbs) that model and teach life lessons for students and parents. There is a CD with the songs that accompany the stories, which are sung in English and Spanish. The songs are also based on the dichos. I also used a Lovito puppet with the children. I read the stories and sang the song that accompanied the story. When a situation came up that needed conflict resolution I intervened with the appropriate song, which served as a reminder to the children about the story. I then asked, what did Lovito do in this situation? They responded and corrected the situation. As time went on, they responded and corrected the situation independently of me and engaged in conflict resolution in the way they were taught — with respect. Dichos and songs were used daily as reinforcements and prompts. They read to the puppet, self-disclosed, and were able to express their feelings. The older students read the stories independently or in groups, and had group discussions on the virtues covered in Lovito. They wrote their own stories about similar situations and they wrote plays based on the Lovito stories and acted them out to the student body and their parents. They became creative and self-confident, and that became evident in the national test results. The children at all levels used the catchy and memorable songs as prompts and reminders — even in the other classrooms — as they moved up the grades and taught their teachers the songs and stories. They continued conflict resolution independently. Lovito is a wonderful tool for any teacher and it has been my great pleasure to implement Lovito in my classroom. The loving stories, the memorable songs, and the Lovito puppet have left positive impressions on the lives of my students and their parents. It created a loving, safe environment in which to learn, work, and interact socially. Children and adults of all backgrounds and ages love Lovito. We all can use the Lovito concepts and life skills.”
